ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission (JC) formed to probe allegations of rigging during the 2013 general elections held its hearing on Wednesday.

During the hearing the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) presented proof to the commission.

PPP leader Latif Khosa told reporters outside the Supreme Court that written objections were submitted to the commission.

The JI delegation which submitted proof on behalf of the party included Liaqat Baloch, Mian Aslam, Naeem-ul-Rehman and Haroon Rasheed.

The three member commission headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Masirul Mulk comprises Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan. Hamid Ali has been appointed as the commission's secretary.

The first hearing of the commission in the open court will take place on April 16. A notification issued by the Supreme Court during the first meeting of the commission stated that any person can submit proof pertaining to election rigging by April 15 to the Secretary Commission.

The commission has also sought recommendations from all political parties which contested the 2013 General Elections.

The commission will present its report on rigging allegations within 45 days.
The commission was constituted by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk on Wednesday in pursuance of the request sent by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights under Commission Ordinance 2015.

Earlier this month the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) came to an agreement for the formation of the commission which will be tasked with probing rigging allegations within 45 days.

The agreement was reached after both sides held several rounds of talks to decide over the proposed commission.

Imran Khan's PTI has long been protesting against what it termed widespread rigging in the 2013 polls.

The party also led a long march on Islamabad in August, 2014 and staged a sit-in till December 16 against what they called the government’s unwillingness to order a judicial probe into the alleged irregularities.
