ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Wednesday condemned an attack by terrorists which killed eight Iranian border guards in the country’s Negour district bordering Pakistan.

“We have received report of killing of eight border guards of Iran in Negour region, Iran, on 06 April 2015. We strongly condemn this act of terrorism,” the Foreign Office said in a statement released today.

“The government of Pakistan conveys sincere condolences to members of the bereaved families and the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” it said.

A deputy governor of Sistan-Baluchistan province, where the incident took place Monday night and which borders Pakistan’s Balochistan province, had alleged that the terrorists had fled into Pakistani territory after carrying out the attack.

The Foreign Office said authorities were investigating the incident, and asked Iran for any proof that the militants had crossed over into Pakistan following the attack.

“The concerned security agencies of Pakistan are actively investigating this incident, which took place on Iran’s territory, and have asked Iranian authorities to share with us any evidence that they have.

“In case the culprits have crossed over to Pakistan after committing the crime on Iran’s soil, they will be apprehended and brought to justice,” said the press statement.
