LAHORE: Police have registered an illegal weapons case against Mustafa Kanju the son of a former minister who admitted to firing the murder weapon which killed 13-year-old Zain Rauf after a minor traffic accident near Cavalry Ground in Lahore Cantt.

Police registered the case stating that the Kalashnikov used in the murder was not licensed. Police had recovered the Kalashnikov and ten bullets from Kanju’s possession.

On April 5, police said that Mustafa Kanju had confessed to the crime during interrogation. According to police Kanju had admitted firing the murder weapons, but claimed that Zain Rauf was not his intended target.

Kanju said that he had neither consumed alcohol nor was he intoxicated during the incident, but had fired the weapon in fury, police claimed.

Police also claimed that Kanju's fingerprints were found on the Kalashnikov rifle — the weapon which claimed Zain's life.
