KARACHI: The Election Commissioner Sindh on Monday wrote a letter to the Election Commissioner of Pakistan seeking deployment of Rangers paramilitary force at polling stations for the upcoming by-polls in NA-246 constituency.

Deployment of Rangers would ensure better security and transparent election process on the polling day (April 23), said the letter.

The National Assembly seat fell vacant after Nabil Gabol resigned after developing differences with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) earlier in February.

Imran Ismael of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is expected to give the MQM a good run for their money in the April 23 by-poll. Kanwar Naveed is the MQM’s candidate for the NA seat.

Meanwhile, ECP’s Returning Officer Nadeem Haider has called a meeting of police, Rangers and district administration to discuss matters related to security in the wake of the by-election.
