LAHORE: Amir Jammat-e-Islami (JI) Siraj-ul-Haq visited the residence of Zain Rauf the class nine student who was allegedly killed by Mustafa Kanju the son of a former minister.

Haq met with Zain’s family members and offered condolences. The JI Amir said the murder of Zain was a test for Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

“I am astonished that people in Lahore need armed guards. This is not the tribal areas. I think people are intoxicated with status, wealth and politics. It is this intoxication which the reason people are being targeted,” Haq said while speaking to reporters.

An anti-terrorism court on Friday sent Mustafa Kanju and his guards on an eight-day physical remand in the murder case of Zain Rauf.

Mustafa Kanju was arrested on Thursday by the police and is accused of gunning down 13-year-old Zain after a road accident.

The incident took place near Cavalry ground in Lahore Cantt, where police said Mustafa Kanju and his guards also wounded a passerby when he and his three guards opened fire after an accident involving his vehicle and a motorcycle.

Mustafa Kanju, the son of former state minister for foreign affairs Siddique Kanju, escaped the scene and was on the run before police arrested him from Kohra Pakka after carrying out several raids.

The weapon used in the killing was yet to be recovered – a key piece of evidence for a murder case.
