ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has ordered the Sindh Home Department to constitute a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to interrogate Saulat Mirza, a death row inmate and former worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

According to sources, after the approval from Federal Interior Secretary, a letter was dispatched to the Sindh Home Department directing it to form a JIT with the task to grill Mirza.

It has been ordered that members from law enforcing institutions as well as intelligence agencies be included in the team.

The Federal government has also directed the Sindh Home Department to investigate into the video statement of Mirza from Machh prison in Balochistan hours before his scheduled execution on March 19.

In the video message Mirza had leveled grave allegations against MQM chief Altaf Hussain and its other key leaders.

A copy of the letter from Federal government to Sindh Home Department has been forwarded to Balochistan Home Department.

A day earlier, Saulat's wife demanded of the government to investigate her husband’s video statement of March 19.

She claimed that Saulat remained in contact with Altaf just before his arrest in the assassination case of MD KESC, Shahid Hamid.
