Imprisoned Pakistani in Yemen appeals for return

SANAA: Muhammad Siddique a Pakistani fishermen imprisoned in Yemen since 2007 has appealed to the Government of Pakistan to make efforts for his release.

In a video message obtained by Geo News, Siddique is seen at a prison in Sanaa along with two other Pakistani inmates appealing to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar. “There is intense bombing outside the prison and we are being abused by other prisons…we will be killed if we are not evacuated from here.”




The family of Muhammad Siddique told Geo News he had been imprisoned for the last eight years. His son Arshad said there were eleven other prisoners from Pakistan in Sanaa with his father.

The Pakistani government has made all-out efforts for the evacuation of approximately 3,000 Pakistanis stranded in war-torn Yemen. The first batch of 503 Pakistanis in Yemen returned to Karachi early Monday. Another PIA plane is expected to travel to Yemen on Tuesday to bring more Pakistanis back home.

In Aden, stranded Pakistanis are expected to be evacuated via a Pakistan Navy ship as the airport in the city has been destroyed.
