ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday met with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) delegation at Prime Minister House to discuss MQM’s concerns over the Karachi operation.

The delegation included MQM leaders Dr Farooq Sattar, Rasheed Godil and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

The PM assured the delegation that the operation was not aimed at any particular political party and that it is against terrorism and criminal behaviour alone.

PM Nawaz went on to say that the people of Karachi have already endured too many hardships and that the PML-N government has learnt a lot from the past.

He went on to say that law-enforcement agencies have been directed to act indiscriminately and that the operation was started taking all political parties on board.

The PM added that the PML-N does not believe in policy of confrontation and all political parties should sincerely collaborate to rid Karachi of violence.

Talking to media after the meeting, Farooq Sattar said his party will not impede the ongoing operation by security forces.

He said that MQM had always cooperated with security agencies in the past and would continue to do so in the future as well.

He went on to say that no criminals were arrested from Nine Zero during the Rangers raid as had been portrayed and that wanted criminals were arrested from adjoining areas.

He further said the PM has promised them that he will investigate the matter of Saulat Mirza’s video recording.

Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique spoke to the media after the meeting and said that the government has assured the MQM that no political party will be targeted in any operation.
