LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday gave a five-day deadline to the Punjab government to decide on the detention of alleged Mumbai Attacks mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.

The LHC gave the order while hearing a plea filed by Lakhvi, who is the main accused in the 2008 Mumbai attacks case.

Lakhvi had moved the LHC, challenging his detention orders by the Punjab government, claiming that it was illegal and in contempt of the Islamabad High Court's earlier ruling.

The application also said that the Punjab home secretary should be bound to end his detention.

In his plea, Lakhvi maintained that he had submitted an application to the Punjab Home Secretary against his detention, but the official had not taken a decision over his application as yet.

Hearing the case, the LHC ordered the home secretary to decide on Lakhvi's detention within five days.
