LAHORE: Keeping in mind increasing killing of police personnel, the Punjab Police have decided to build bullet-proof bunkers outside police pickets to provide shelter to officials deployed at the security duties.

A spokesman for the Punjab Police said early on Thursday that Pakistan Army would provide the bullet-proof bunkers, a sample of which has already been shown to Inspector General (IG) Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera.

The IGP has approved installation of 20 bunkers initially in Lahore, said the spokesman.

Police officials would remain safe behind the bunkers in case of an armed ambush on them, said the police spokesman, adding that a strategy was also being contemplated to provide the bunkers to other cities of the country.
