MQM opposes judicial commission to probe poll rigging

ISLAMABAD: All political parties of the country except the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Tuesday expressed their support to the recently agreed-upon formation of a judicial commission to probe the 2013 General Election.

Speaking to media representatives after attending a meeting of all Parliamentary parties chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif here, MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar said that the agreement signed between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was in contradiction with the Constitution.

He said the agreement was in contradiction with Articles 225 and 189 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

Sattar said that all political parties were bound to abide by the Constitution, adding that MQM was the only party that has opposed the judicial commission. He said their cooperation was sought during the meeting.

The MQM leader said there were qualms present in the draft of the agreement and the PTI leadership should not rule out the possibility that they are ‘being played’ here.

Sattar said there was an obvious likelihood that the ordinance, if passed by the Parliament, would get snubbed later on.
