KARACHI: Refuting reports that Sindh Police facilitated Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) inmates during the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) tenure, Karachi police chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo on Sunday said that the matter was dealt between the two parties.

Speaking after attending a photo exhibition at Quaid’s Mausoleum here, he said that the procedure of separating MQM prisoners from others was adopted after the written agreement, made public by Geo News last week.

Additional Inspector General Thebo said the MQM leaders held an on-record meeting with police and jail authorities as they were facing difficulties in meeting with the party’s inmates. The meeting was official and a then minister was also a part of the MQM delegation, he added.

He said despite considerable decline in targeted killing and other crimes in the metropolis, the country was still in a state of war, adding that police and Rangers personnel were still being targeted and killed by the terrorists.

Thebo said restoration of peace would bring prosperity for all and urged all stakeholders to be on the same page in this regard.

Vowing to bring reforms in the prevailing Thana (police station) culture, the Karachi police chief said that over 300 online FIRs have been registered so far.

He said that all police stations and check posts were operational in the port city, urging the civilians to report all their complaints against police on 15 or the toll-free numbers advertised by the department.
