KARACHI: At least two Rangers personnel were killed and four others including civilians injured in an explosion near Shadman Town neighbourhood of North Nazimabad area here on Friday evening.
The martyred Rangers personnel are identified as Yar Mohammad and Qasim. The injured included a passerby man and a woman identified as Zarf and Saeeda.
Police officials said that a patrolling vehicle of Rangers paramilitary force was the apparent target of the attack, which took place near Karachi’s North Nazimabad block-J.
They said that the blast was carried out through a timed device and explosives were planted in a motorcycle parked near the Rangers mobile.
SP Gulberg, however, said that possibility of it being a suicide attack cannot be ruled out.
Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali later confirmed that the explosion was a suicide attack. He said that five kilos of explosives was used in the blast.
IGP Jamali vowed to eradicate terrorism completely from the province.
Injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where two Rangers officials succumbed to their wounds.
