ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties have decided to nominate a JUI-F candidate for the post of Deputy Chairman Senate.

Opposition parties from Balochistan agreed that the post should be given to the JUI-F. The PPP, NP, BNP-A, PML-Q, ANP and other parties meet last night and decided that the post would be given to JUI-F candidate Maulana Abdul Sattar, however, it would be up to the JUI-F to finalise the candidate.

Opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah is expected to make a formal announcement later today. Other parties and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have already been informed of this decision.

The ruling PML-N and opposition parties had earlier agreed to support Senator Raza Rabbani, the PPP’s candidate for the office of Senate chairman.

However, it was left up to the smaller parties to agree on a candidate from Balochistan for the Deputy Chairman slot.

Earlier on Wednesday, Chairman-designate Raza Rabbani resigned from his post as additional secretary general of the PPP.

Newly-elected senators will took oath of office Thursday morning, after which the election for the Chairman and Deputy Chairman are expected to take place.
