ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to provide a date for when local bodies (LB) elections will be held in the country by tomorrow (Friday).

The apex court has also called on the governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Punjab to provide written assurance that LB elections will be held on the dates provided by the ECP.

The SC heard the LB elections case during which Justice Jawaad S. Khawaja asked the governments of Sindh and Punjab to provide their reasons for not holding the elections. Justice Khawaja further said holding LB elections was a constitutional requirement.

The Supreme Court will resume hearing the case on Friday.
