Hayatabad attack: FIR registered against TTP commander Umar alias Naray

PESHAWAR: An FIR was registered on Saturday against Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) commander Umar alias Naray in the Imamia Masjid Imambargah attack case.

Police and intelligence agencies are currently investigating Friday’s deadly attack in which at least 21 people were killed as terrorists targetted the Imambargah located in Peshawar’s Hayatabad Phase V following Friday prayers.

PESHAWAR: An FIR was registered on Saturday against Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) commander Umar alias Naray in the Imamia Masjid Imambargah attack case.

Police and intelligence agencies are currently investigating Friday’s deadly attack in which at least 21 people were killed as terrorists targetted the Imambargah located in Peshawar’s Hayatabad Phase V following Friday prayers.

The TTP commander already has an FIR registered against him for being involved in the December 16 Peshawar Army Public School attack.

According to preliminary investigation, the attackers had arrived in Peshawar from Shahkus area of Khyber Agency and were able to enter the Imambargah through an adjacent under construction building.

The investigation further revealed that two suicide bombers detonated themselves upon entering, while one suicide bomber was killed in exchange of gunfire by the security personnel at the Imambargah.

Friday’s attack left over 55 people injured, several of whom were being treated at the Hayatabad Medical Complex.

The Balochistan Shia conference called for three days of mourning and called for the arrest of those involved in the attack within 48 hours.

The attack came two weeks after a suicide bombing at an imambargah in Shikarpur, Sindh killed 61 people.

An attack carried out in a similar manner claimed the lives of over 150 people the majority of them school children when terrorists attacked the Army Public School in Peshawar on December 16, 2014.
