Intra-Kashmir trade remains suspended

MUZAFFARABAD: The Intra-Kashmir trade route at the Chakothi crossing point remained suspended for a second day on Saturday as a truck from Azad Kashmir was stopped by Indian authorities allegedly said to be carrying contraband.

As a result, 22 trucks that were coming from Azad Kashmir enroute to Indian occupied Kashmir were all stranded.

MUZAFFARABAD: The Intra-Kashmir trade route at the Chakothi crossing point remained suspended for a second day on Saturday as a truck from Azad Kashmir was stopped by Indian authorities allegedly said to be carrying contraband.

As a result, 22 trucks that were coming from Azad Kashmir enroute to Indian occupied Kashmir were all stranded.

Officials at the Azad Kashmir Trade and Travel Authority said that according to agreements made between Pakistan and India, the Indian administration is responsible for returning the trucks with goods. The officials also maintained that they should be shown evidence of the contraband material.

The Director General, Trade and Travel Authority, Brigadier (R) Imtiaz confirmed the incident and said that the Foreign Office (FO) has taken notice of the incident and the media will be briefed with details soon.
