PM credits CM Sindh for improved situation in Karachi

KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the security situation in Karachi had improved. The prime minister visited the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) following a high-level meeting at the Governor House.

The prime minister told reporters at KSE that the credit for the improved situation in the city should go to Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah.

KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the security situation in Karachi had improved. The prime minister visited the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) following a high-level meeting at the Governor House.

The prime minister told reporters at KSE that the credit for the improved situation in the city should go to Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah.

Prime Minister Sharif said Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders were present at the high-level meeting and their reservations were discussed in detail. The prime minister said he had taken notice of the murder of MQM workers and the IGP Sindh had informed him that the probe into the killing of three MQM workers would be completed in 30 days.

According to Prime Minister Sharif, terrorism would be eliminated from the country.

Prime Minister Sharif also praised the performance of the KSE over the past year and said the energy crisis would be eliminated from the country.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sharif arrived in Karachi and held a meeting with Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Eban, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, DG Rangers, IGP Sindh and other top officials.

The PM while chairing a high-level meeting directed the concerned authorities to thoroughly investigate the killing of three workers of MQM and bring the culprits to justice. He further said that his visit to Karachi was aimed at discussing ways and means to restore peace in the city and mentioned that the Karachi operation was showing good results.

The Prime Minister met the families of the slain workers Sohail Ahmed, Faraz Alam and Rehan at the Governor House and expressed deep grief over their death.

He said that both the Governor and CM Sindh should maintain harmony between their two respective parties and that all issues should be resolved at the provincial level.

He went on to say that all provincial matters should be discussed and resolved through dialogue.

An MQM delegation was already waiting for the PM in the Governor House. The delegation included Babar Ghauri, Qamar Mansoor, Dr. Farooq Sattar and Haider Abbas Rizvi.

Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, and other members of provincial cabinet attended the meeting.

The CM Sindh also briefed the PM regarding progress on the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) as well as establishment of special courts.

The PM said that the NAP was meant to root out terrorism and extremism from the country and it had the support of all major political parties. He mentioned that NAP was the outcome of joint efforts of all political parties and the document was duly signed by their representatives.
