KARACHI: According to a letter obtained by Geo News on Wednesday in connection to the raid at Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Chief Ahmed Chinoy’s residence, the victim Laraib’s father has written that his son was freed by Rangers Special Task Force without any payment of ransom.

The letter written by Laraib’s father to the DG Rangers Special Task Force further reveals that his wife and son were kept waiting at the CPLC office.

According to the text of the letter, the father goes on to say that besides registering the case with the cell at Rangers Special Task Force, they also registered it with the CPLC. It goes to on to say that CPLC officials told his wife and son that they are not allowed to go anywhere while they were carrying out their investigations.

The letter further says that CPLC told the wife and son that they were trying to locate the kidnappers and during that time, the kidnappers called twice to demand ransom. It goes on to say that he was then also called to the CPLC office and hence he could not provide any more information to the Rangers Special Task Force.

Sources said that it was this same letter that became the basis of the raid conducted yesterday at Chinoy’s residence.

On Tuesday morning, the Rangers Special Task Force conducted a raid at the CPLC Chief’s residence. Chinoy was accused of mishandling the kidnapping for ransom case.

A spokesman for the Rangers said the Special Task Force conducted a raid in the Sohrab Goth area of the city on Monday night and recovered the 24-year-old kidnapping victim. The spokesman added the kidnappers had demanded Rs 2 million for his release.

Chinoy dismissed these allegations terming them baseless. He said that Rangers did come to his house at 5:30 AM and left after meeting him for 15 minutes. He clarified that his house was not raided and therefore the incident should not be termed as such.
