Police in dilemma: To enforce lockdown or maintain law and order
SUKKUR: The police are caught up in double jeopardy as they are worried whether to ensure the lockdown or to maintain law and order situation in their respective districts. Almost 60 percent police force in the respective districts is tied up to enforce the lockdown in view of the coronavirus health emergency. The senior police officers are worried that while they are focusing on enforcing the lockdown, the law and order situation in Khairpur, Ghotki and Kashmore-Kandhkot district is slipping out of control. They believe that their present strength would compromise the law and order situation of their respective districts.
Meanwhile, four members of a family were killed in Khairpur on Thursday. The incident happened when criminals tried to rob a shop in village Kholira near Faiz Muhammed Bhindo, Khairpur. The robbery attempt alarmed the owners' family who tried to chase the criminals. During the pursuit, the criminals opened fire, killing Ali Dino Abbasi, his brother Khaliq Dino and his two sons Majid and Shahid, who were killed on spot. According to ASP City Saad Arshad, eight suspects were arrested while further investigations were underway.
In another incident, three people belonging to Kandhkot and Karampur were kidnapped. The victims were identified as Asghar Ali, Naimatullah Jafferi and Ali Hassan Brohi who were intercepted by armed men when they were going to their agricultural land in a pick up. Seeing the armed men, the driver tried to speed away but the kidnappers opened fire at them, injuring Habibullah Brohi critically. The criminals, however, took away Asghar Ali, Naimatullah Jafferi and Ali Hassan Brohi. The injured was shifted to Sukkur Hira hospital in a critical condition. The police were pursuing the criminals who had entered the thick forests of the Gharhi Taigho.
In another case, the Kashmore Police after an encounter recovered two victims kidnapped five days ago. SSP Kashmore Kandhkot Syed Asad Raza told The News that Kashmore Police intercepted a gang of dacoits who were shifting Zoheb and Firdous Pathan. He said following a long firing exchange, one criminal was injured and two criminals were arrested.
