Ayesha Omar releases a cover of ‘Tere Ishq Mein’

Some might find the proposition of covering a much-loved classic like ‘Tere Ishq Mein’ incredibly daunting, but Ayesha Omar clearly isn’t one of them. The multi-talented entertainer has unveiled her version of the famous folk song, and took to Instagram to explain how the cover came about.

“What started out as an impromptu jam at the Commune Artist Colony with YBQ Design Studios and the supremely talented JamBro’z became a beautiful bonding experience for us and we decided to record it casually in Saad Hayat’s studio just because we love the song so much,” she wrote in a post about the track.

The Bulbulay actress and Ayesha O Beauty founder went on to explain what the tune means to her, saying that she grew up listening to the song and that it has remained her absolute favourite since she was a little kid. “I used to sing this everywhere and with everyone, and later started singing it in interviews randomly when I used to be asked to hum a tune. My friends would request me to sing it when we would randomly do singalongs and it still remains my favourite track to listen to in the car.”

Her reverential take is understated but sublime, and the singer has emphasized that her version “is not a remix or redo of this magnificent number”. “No one can ever perform it better than Muhammad Ali Shehki and Allan Fakeer, and later Bayaan,” she stated. “This is just a humble tribute to the song itself, to all the singers who have sung it over the years, to the composer and lyricist, and above ALL: our Creator.”

Musicians Taha G and Aima Baig have joined forces for a new song called ‘Rent Free’, an upbeat pop ditty that will serve as the first single from the former’s upcoming EP, Pyaar Bhi Kya Nasha Hai.

The song finds the duo exploring the possibility of a relationship; he is trying to woo her while she seems less than impressed and wants him to prove himself before she gives him her heart. The video for the track is set in a hospital, with Taha portraying a patient who is smitten with and fantasizing about his doctor, played by Aima.

Rihanna to headline the next Super Bowl halftime show

Popstar Rihanna is all set to take the coveted stage at next year’s Super Bowl halftime show. The National Football League announced that the Barbadian singer will headline the much-watched event that is set to take place in February in Glendale, Arizona. This will be the first time that Apple Music will be the official sponsor of the event as part of a multiyear deal, replacing Pepsi that had been the sponsor since 2013.

Previous halftime performers have included the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince, Beyonce, Coldplay, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, The Weeknd, and most recently the very well-received team-up of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar.

The news has also sparked speculation that new music might be imminent from the Fenty founder who hasn’t released a new album since 2016’s Anti. The 34-year-old singer has had an eventful year though. She appeared as America’s youngest self-made female billionaire on the Forbes’ 2022 list (with a net worth of $1.4 billion), and also welcomed her first child, a son with rapper ASAP Rocky, this May.
