raud is an upcoming play that looks very promising. Starring Ahsan Khan, Saba Qamar and Mikaal Zulfiqar in lead roles, this play has been produced by Abdullah Seja. Saba Qamar returns to the small screen after quite a long break and we look forward to seeing this brilliant young actress in yet another role that will hopefully do justice to her talent.

The first teaser sees Ahsan Khan in an out and out negative role, judging by his dialogues, mannerism and body language. He has proven his versatility time and again, as he seems to perform positive and negative roles with equal ease. His character in Udaari is still remembered as one of his best performances ever as an antagonist.

Saba Qamar, abandoned at a train station in one of the teasers by her husband, appears to have fallen victim to a scam. Based on the events thus far, it can be deduced that the scam artist is none other than Ahsan Khan. His character marries eligible women from well-to-do backgrounds before absconding with all their material possessions. Saba appears to be playing the role of one of his victims who was married off probably under false pretences. When she comes to realise the truth, she can do nothing but berate her parents and blame herself for being such a fool.

This play promises to be different and with Ahsan Khan and Saba Qamar in lead roles, we will definitely witness some of the best performances of the year. Saba is an actor par excellence and received a lot of critical acclaim from across the border for her role in Hindi Medium with none other than Irrfan Khan. Her big screen venture, Ghabrana Nahin Hai also received rave reviews and promises to prove one of the blockbusters of the year.

Mikaal Zulfiqaar appears to be the surprise package. His role in the play is not clear from the teasers. This trio will be seen together after eleven years on the small screen. The play promises completely different roles for them than ones we have seen them in so far.

The viewers of today are spoilt for choice and switch channels and loyalties with alarming regularity. Therefore, the content being churned out has to be top notch for it to strike a chord with the audience and rake in TRPs. Saba Qamar is quite a box office draw as she has quite a few noteworthy performances to her credit like Cheekh, Baaghi and Besharam, to name a few. She is one of the most talented actresses around and few can rival her versatility.

Ahsan Khan, although he looks as young as ever, has been around for aeons and has emerged as a very fine actor with the ability to dive into the skin of his character and make it his own. His latest outing as an antagonist in Qissa Meherbano Ka also received a lot of critical acclaim. His acting was so realistic that the audience was happy to see the character meet its well-deserved end.

Let’s hope this play lives up to all the hype it has created, exceeds expectations and emerges as one of the blockbusters of the year. Definitely one to watch out for.
