he award season is in full swing and music’s biggest night, the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, was held this past week. It was a star-studded event where artists were recognized for their outstanding contributions. It was indeed a proud moment for the nation when our very own singer-songwriter and composer, Arooj Aftab, bagged her first Grammy in the Best Global Music Performance category for her single, ‘Mohabbat’. Though we’re more than excited about Arooj’s win, we couldn’t ignore the awe-inspiring glamorous looks at this year’s awards ceremony. When it comes to hair and makeup trends, musicians are more comfortable taking beauty risks for Grammys compared to more formal award shows like the Oscars or Emmys. Just like the past years, several artists experimented with their looks, thanks to the industry’s leading hairstylists and makeup artists, who conjured elegant as well as dramatic beauty looks.

Here’s a round-up of some of our favourite beauty moments from the night.

Dua Lipa

The British singer showed up on the red carpet with straight, long hair. Dua Lipa’s super-sleek platinum blonde hair accentuated her black Versace outfit. She wore one of the Italian fashion house’s most memorable styles: the bondage dress from AW 1992. She looked effortless channelling Donatella Versace vibes. As dramatic as her look was, she went with minimalist-glam makeup with shimmery but subtle eyes, defined bushy brows, and a bold brick red lip.

Billie Eilish

For the awards ceremony Billie Eilish wore a black cape-style coat by Rick Owens. It’s a far cry from her Oscars look where she went with a very old Hollywood-esque bob. This time around the singer and songwriter opted for a Y2K-inspired hairdo – choppy bangs, spiky ponytail and a few face framing hair strands. While her jet black hair matched her skinny sunglasses, her makeup was all about rosy pink lipstick and blush, courtesy of the singer’s go-to makeup artist, Robert Rumsey.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is popular for her eccentric looks, but it seems like the singer-turned-actress is more inclined toward old Hollywood glamour these days. Lady Gaga showed up wearing a stunning asymmetrical Armani Prive gown. The black and white outfit featured a fitted black body with a sweeping white train. Gaga’s blonde hair was coiffed in a retro, old Hollywood-inspired updo while her makeup was kept fresh with a subtle cat eye, fluffy lashes, boldly defined brows and a peachy pink lip colour. She accessorized her look with Tiffany & Co. diamonds.

Halsey

The singer, who is known for her quirky style statements, chose to wear a black skirt and burgundy corset from Pressiat’s FW ‘22 collection and paired it with a vintage Pierre Cardin hat. Halsey rocked a classy yet vampy makeup look with winged eyeliner and burgundy ombre lips. The glossy, wine-colored lips seamlessly darkened toward the edges. Halsey’s burgundy dipped ends could be seen from under her hat. According to her hairstylist, Marty Harper, he was inspired by her gorgeous dress to create this smoothed out bob with the angular flip at the end.

Doja Cat

Rapper Doja Cat went with a custom Versace gown but it was the futuristic spin on her ‘90s hairdo that caught our attention. Her platinum-blonde hair, courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Jared Henderson, came equipped with micro bangs, face-framing tendrils styled in a spiky half-up hairstyle. Makeup artist Ernesto Casillas opted for purple smoky eyes, glossy nude lips and flushed cheeks for Doja Cat.
