T

hey say that nobody understands luxury like the Italians, and that is definitely true. Case in point, the recently held Milan Fashion Week (MFW), where renowned haute couturiers showcased stunning designs, plenty of attitude, and most importantly, swoon-worthy beauty looks, bringing sophisticated glamour to this season’s hair and makeup.

While we saw savvy outfits and bright colours such as every shade of yellow imaginable and Barbie pink on the runways, the makeup looks ranged from clean, dewy skin to heavy emphasis on the eyes. As for hair, celebrity hairstylists featured futuristic hair looks, intricately wrapped updos, sleek, wet-look hair, and much more.

Read on to find out the best high-drama beauty moments straight from the runways of Milan Fashion Week to inspire your hair and makeup looks.

The sleek wet look

The wet look was one of the key trends at Milan Fashion Week. Models walked the Fendi show sporting super slick hair with deep side partings. Some models had their hair secured with a kitsch gold barrette, while others had it neatly tucked behind the ears, allowing for structure and a soft framing of the face. We also spotted this hair trend at the Roberto Cavalli show. If you want to recreate this look, all you have to do is rub a dab of hair gel between your wet hands and run it through your hair, while still damp. Re-apply thin layers of gel and once you have achieved that ultimate wet look, apply some hairspray and finish with a touch of shine spray. The I-just-got-out-of-the-shower hair look is so cool, and we are absolutely loving it.

Shiny silver

At Milan Fashion Week, one trend that caught our fancy was the disco-ready silver foil liner. For Gucci, celebrity makeup artist Thomas de Kluyver took the aphorism all that glitters is not gold to a new level. Models were seen flaunting bold metallic eyes and the rest of the face was kept dewy with nude lips. Planning to try this look at home? Press on a wet-look shadow for a similar vibe. That is not all! Ambush debuted at the MFW with its retro-futuristic collection, but the highlight was the graphic eyeshadow with silver shining in the inner corners of the models’ eyes. This look is perfect for those who want to stay on-trend but aren’t bold enough to try the silver foil liner.

Pops of pink

Hues of pink on the eyes might seem a tad bit too much, but black eyeliner can balance them. Take a cue from the models at the Emporio Armani show. They were seen wearing pink eyeshadow with dramatic winged eyeliner on the outer edges for a colourful spin on the beloved cat-eye. Here’s what you need to do to achieve this look. Apply winged black eyeliner, and then with the help of a pink eye pencil, draw a neat line near your lash line. You can go for a thick or a thin pink eyeliner; it depends on how dramatic you want your look to be.

Graphic, bold eyes

There is nothing more timeless than smoky and sultry eye makeup, and that is exactly what we spotted Versace’s showcase. However, things were taken up a notch and made more dramatic with bleached brows and graphic, bold eyes. The juxtaposition of blonde eyebrows and smoky black eyes was weirdly stunning. Moreover, Roberto Cavalli sent the models on the runway sporting black eyeshadow cleanly circling their eyes and extended to a sharp wing at the outer corners. Of course, both looks were purely for the ramp, but this trend definitely caught our attention, and we are excited to try it.
