This past week, the house of Dior showcased its spring/summer ’22 haute couture show inside the Musée Rodin in Paris. While the collection was mostly about monochromes with emphasis on the craft of embroidery along with intricate tapestries by Indian artists, what surely caught our eye as well as our fancy was one bold makeup detail: white eyeliner.

The Creative and Image Director of Christian Dior Makeup, Peter Philips, went with the no-makeup look where the models strutted down the runway with fresh faces, flaunting a graphic white reverse cat-eye liner. To achieve that editorial touch, Philips didn’t even use mascara to coat the lashes.

The best part about white eyeliner is that it pops on any skin tone as well as opens up the eyes. Taking some major inspiration from the Dior show, here are five ways to wear the super-flattering white eyeliner.

Traditional white cat-eye

Who says basic is boring? All you have to do is just amp it up a little bit and trade your black eyeliner with a white one. What’s great about the traditional cat-eye is that the white eyeliner will give your eyes a dramatic look and help brighten them up. Simply line your eyelid with white kohl pencil and flick the liner outward at the corner of your eyes.

Reverse cat-eye

Want to recreate the exact reverse cat-eye that Philips created? Here’s what you need to do. Start by applying white kohl pencil to the waterline and a bit under the eye. Blend it into the roots of the lashes. Next, apply a matte white eyeliner to create a graphic, straight line under the eyes. Make sure to connect it to the kohl liner, and voila, you are all set. If you want to add a dramatic touch, don’t forget to wear black mascara – you can even opt for falsies if you like.

Double eyeliner

For those who are not daring enough to sport a white liner, the double eyeliner look is just for you. It is a blend of black and white liner that looks really classy. Using a black liquid liner, apply a winged eyeliner. Then with the help of a white pencil trace above the black liner. Finish the look by lining your waterline with white pencil and coating your lashes with a volumizing black mascara.

White waterline

If you haven’t had a good night’s sleep, here’s the easiest and most common way to fake those fairytale eight hours. To make your eyes look awake, apply a white kohl pencil to your waterline. It is not only great for an instant pick-me-up but is also the perfect trick to make your eyes look bigger. Moreover, you can experiment a bit by extending the white liner into your inner eye corners, creating a small arrow shape.

Negative space eyeliner

The negative space liner is a great way to make your eyes pop. All you need to do is use your eye crease as a template to create a simple negative space eyeliner. Begin by applying a traditional winged liner using a white eyeliner just like you normally would with a black one.

The next step is to connect a floating line out from the edge of your wings using your upper lid’s natural crease. Just extend the line a little across the width of your eye and there you have it.
