News of the week! PISA ’21 to honour actors of Dirilis: Ertugrul with Global Influencer Award

With the second edition of Pakistan International Screen Awards all set to be held at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai on November 5, 2021, the organizers have started revealing interesting details regarding the awards ceremony. We already know that Sajjad Ali and Umair Jaswal will be performing at the PISA ’21 along with Mehwish Hayat and Sheheryar Munawar’s dance performance.

Apart from that, there was news that a few Turkish stars from popular drama series Dirilis: Ertugrul will be attending the event. Recently, the organizers, conceptualizers, and producers of PISA ’21 have disclosed that Ertugrul actors Emre Uctepe, Didem Balc n and Celal Al will be honoured with the Global Influencer Award at the upcoming awards ceremony.

The three actors will be receiving the honorary awards because of their brilliant performances as well as the popularity of the 2014 historical drama series, which has been dubbed into six languages and broadcast in more than 70 countries.

The Turkish drama series became a big hit among Pakistani audiences during lockdown. In fact, Prime Minister Imran Khan urged Pakistan Television (PTV) to broadcast the Urdu-dubbed version of the series, Ertugrul Ghazi, in October 2019. The PM not only recommended the nation to watch it but also publicly praised the show.

Seems like the second Pakistan International Screen Awards will definitely be bigger and better as promised and a step up from last year’s show. Stay tuned for more updates!

Alec Baldwin’s accidental shooting on Rust set causes a stir

During the rehearsal of US film, titled Rust, actor Alec Baldwin was drawing a revolver across his body and pointing it at a camera when he fired it, thinking it to be a prop gun. This accident resulted in the death of 42-year-old director of photography, Halyna Hutchins. Moreover, director Joel Souza, who was standing behind Hutchins, was shot in the shoulder.

Recent reports suggest that the prop gun fired on the set was handed to the actor by assistant director Dave Halls, who was unaware that the gun contained live ammunition, stating that it was unloaded.

According to Variety, Souza said that the cast and crew had been assured that Baldwin was handling a “cold gun,” meaning it had no live rounds. As per the safety protocols that need to be followed by the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and Rust assistant director Dave Halls were required to double-check and make sure that the barrel was empty before the firearm was handed to the actors.

Reportedly, David Halls was terminated from 2019’s Freedom’s Path when a gun unexpectedly discharged on the Arkansas set under his supervision and injured a crew member.

While no immediate charges were filed against the 63-year-old actor, Alec Baldwin described the killing as a “tragic accident.” He took to Twitter and wrote, “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours. I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

The death of Halyna Hutchins has prompted calls for better safety measures on movie sets and has in fact inspired a petition on change.org to ban the use of real firearms on sets. That petition has drawn more than 25,000 signatories.

After this tragic incident, production has been halted on the upcoming movie, Rust, which is about a 13-year-old boy who is left to fend for himself and his younger brother following the death of their parents in 1880s Kansas.

– This is a developing story.
