After being featured in the Atlas of Fashion Designers by Laura Eceiza, renowned fashion designer Deepak Perwani has made it to another international publication, again for his acclaimed collection, Frida Goes to Kharadar, which he first showcased at Fashion Pakistan Week in 2013. The collection has made it to Frida Kahlo: Fashion As The Art of Being, an anthology of interpretations of the renowned Mexican artist’s work in the form of fashion.

“When your dress gets featured in a book by none other than the #frida #FridaKahlo first for any Pakistani designer :)” the designer Tweeted, announcing the honour.

“Excited to share the second feature of Deepak Perwani in an international book and yet again a first for any Pakistani designer!” an official statement was put out on the brand’s Instagram. “Frida Kahlo: Fashion As The Art of Being, written by Susana Martínez Vidal, and published by Assouline New York features the iconic dress from #DeepakPerwani’s Frida goes to Kharadar collection. This international accolade is a proud moment yet once again for the House of Deepak Perwani and #Pakistan!”

According to the book’s description, Frida Kahlo: Fashion as the Art of Being is a vibrant tribute to Frida Kahlo’s bold character, style, and art, a fascinating journey reflecting the kaleidoscopic ways Frida’s unique story and personality have been interpreted and adapted in our time. It is indeed an honour to have a Pakistani designer’s work celebrated as one of the international names who have paid tribute to the artist.

Ayesha Omar unveils her first look from Javed Iqbal

We earlier shared the news that actress and host Ayesha Omar is all set to play the role of a protagonist in an upcoming film based on the life of notorious serial killer Javed Iqbal, who sexually abused and murdered over 100 children in Lahore. Recently, the Bulbulay actress took to social media to reveal her first look from the film, titled, Javed Iqbal: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer.

Ayesha shared an image of her character on Instagram and captioned it, “The Untold Story of a Serial Killer, coming soon. InshAllah.” She further wrote, “And with my first look for this shattering story, a salute to our armed forces for protecting and serving us, consistently, against all odds, day in and day out. I’m full of gratitude, today and every day.”

In the poster, Ayesha Omar is dressed as a police officer, who will head the investigation against the serial killer and track down his accomplices. The actress had earlier stated that this role was bound to be a challenge but one that she’s certainly looking forward to.

The upcoming movie will feature Yasir Hussain essaying the role of Javed Iqbal. Yasir had earlier shared his first look as the serial killer on his official Instagram handle. The movie is written and helmed by Abu Aleeha, while it is being produced under the banner of KK Films by Javed Ahmad.

Nida Yasir comes under fire, again

Time and again morning shows receive backlash for the poorly researched content that sparks debate among netizens. This is exactly what happened when an old clip of Nida Yasir’s morning show resurfaced on Twitter. In this clip from 2016, actress and morning show host Nida Yasir is seen asking her guests some absurd questions regarding Formula 1 racing. The host invited two young men, Abdul Aleem and Mohammad Shariq, who were part of a team from NUST that had built a Formula 1 electric racing car for Formula Student in the US. The host, clueless about Formula 1 racing, asked her guests inane questions like how many seats the car has and why doesn’t the racing car have a capacity for three persons. The young men seemed to have a hard time explaining the Formula 1 dynamics to her.

Ever since, funny videos and memes have been doing the rounds on social media and netizens have been pointing at the lack of research done prior to the show. Some people are finding it amusing including the host herself who recently responded to the viral clip saying that she has no idea how the clip went viral and that she laughed after watching this old snippet from her show. However, she admitted that her lack of research at that time was definitely a mistake and, ensured that she will research properly on topics that she is unaware of.

The problem is, that while this clip is from an old show, neither does it justify the host’s ignorance back then, nor does it excuse her as similar mistakes are made on her show even today. Nida Yasir’s show, if you think of it, is always in the news for the wrong reasons. This makes us wonder whether the host is actually naive or are these just gimmicks to boost TRPs of morning shows that are apparently very popular among the masses.

This is not the first time that the host has been trolled. In fact, she’s quite prone to making serious blunders. Case in point: last year’s controversial segment on her morning show where she interviewed the parents of a minor girl who was raped and murdered. She received severe backlash on her insensitive questions after which #BanNidaYasir started trending on Twitter. Later she apologized for hurting people’s sentiments.

Being a host comes with a lot of responsibility and we think it is high time that the actress and host takes inventory of her method, and how to take it going forward.
