Model, actress and beautician Nadia Hussain shares her favourite hair and makeup trends as well as the perfect summer skincare routine

If you’re one of those beauty-conscious women who follow a strict skincare regime, you would surely know that your routine needs to be altered with the change of season. Changes in humidity, cold blasts of the air-conditioning, and longer, sunnier days play an important part in how our skin holds up and we need to be mindful of those changes. Come summer and we instantly update our wardrobes but at times we don’t pay heed to our skincare and makeup regimes and keep on following the same rituals. With the warm weather officially taking over in most parts of the country, it is time to focus on our seasonal change from the neck up, maintaining and protecting that gorgeous glow.

Summer means greasy skin, clogged pores etc. So, if you want to prep your skin for the hot days ahead, spend some time on a new summer skincare routine that will keep your skin glowing. Trying out new makeup trends would also be oh-so-amazing.

Model, actress and beautician Nadia Hussain, who launched her salon in 2014 and makeup brand, Bling, in 2019, shares some interesting tips on how to achieve that flawless skin in the summertime as well as latest beauty trends that you can flaunt in the warm weather.

Summer skincare

Due to the ongoing pandemic, there has been a huge shift towards skincare as opposed to complicated makeup regimes. Thanks to masks, there is a new found love for clear, glowing skins, now more than ever.

Talking about the skincare routine that women should follow this summer, Nadia Hussain reveals, “Focus on good skincare, especially during summer, and make sure to moisturize, exfoliate and apply sunscreen on a regular basis.”

The artist is a firm believer that everyone should follow a regular skin regime keeping in mind their skin types. Nadia further went on to stress that prepping your face before makeup is very important. “The basic steps to prep your skin includes cleansing, toning and hydrating. These steps will ensure flawless makeup, which will last longer in the scorching weather,” she adds.

Hair and nails

As for hairstyle and colour, she shares that it is important for women to opt for a style that suits their face shape. “In terms of hair colours, ashy hues are back,” she adds.

When it comes to nails Nadia says, “Fads come and go, but the classic styles remain. In my opinion, jewelled nails will never go out of fashion.”

Makeup trends

According to Nadia, some beauty trends that are ruling this summer season include dramatic eyes and fresh, radiant skin and nude peachy shades. “The third wave of Covid-19 has taken over and we are still wearing masks so it is basically our eye makeup that should steal the limelight. Coloured eyeliners have been popular for quite some time now and is here to stay so we’ll see a lot of that. Besides, there is a lot of emphasis on dewy skin and highlighting for that perfect glow.”

Tips and tricks

A few makeup trends that are a big no this season, according to Nadia Hussain, include thin eyebrows, prominent lip liner and heavy foundation. She further went on to say, “The simplest trick to transform your day makeup into night makeup is to focus on the eyes. Smoke out the corners of your eyes and add a dramatic winged eyeliner.”

On a parting note, Nadia shares, “If you want your makeup to last longer during summers, go for cheek tints, matte foundation, patting your face dry and applying setting spray once you are done.”

Moreover, makeup tends to become oily so she suggests staying out of the sun as much as possible. “Use mattifying primers before putting on your matte foundation and I repeat, don’t forget your setting spray,” she concludes.
