Actress Ramsha Khan reveals her fitness routine and stresses on the importance of mental health.

Ramsha Khan, who made her acting debut on the big screen with Rafay Rashidi’s Thora Jee Le in 2017, ventured into television the same year. Though the movie didn’t do too well at the box office, Ramsha Khan’s performance didn’t go unnoticed. In a short span of time she has proved her mettle as a versatile actress and some of her notable drama serials include Mah e Tamam, Khudparast, Kaisa Hai Naseeban, Ishqiya and romantic comedy, Shahrukh Ki Saaliyan amongst others. The actress also generated rave reviews for her brilliant portrayal of the bold and gutsy Samia in the recently concluded TV play Ghisi Piti Mohabbat that also featured Wahaj Ali, Samina Ahmed, Saba Hameed and Ali Abbas in prominent roles.

Currently Ramsha Khan is busy shooting for her upcoming play, loosely titled Shehnai, with Affan Waheed.

We caught up with the talented young actress to know more about her health regime and what motivates her to stay fit despite her hectic schedule...

All about lifestyle choices

Ramsha is definitely not a fitness freak and confesses to days when all she wants to consume is fast food. “But I don’t overeat; at least I try not to overeat. Moreover, I mostly try to fast,” she says.

As for her fitness goals, she went on to say that almost two years ago she had aimed to become as skinny as possible. “However, I later realized that it’s not healthy; neither for my physical health nor my mental health. As long as I am comfortable with my body, I am happy with that. So you can say that I want to be healthy - not too skinny or too fat,” she says, adding that these days she is doing yoga for her well-being as it keeps her fit as well as happy.

According to Ramsha, it is of utmost importance that she gets eight hours of sleep to stay fresh and energetic the next day.

Eating habits

The Ghisi Piti Mohabbat actress shares that when it comes to her eating habits she usually prefers desi food. “I usually have three meals per day and there are times when I consume two meals; breakfast and lunch or I just have lunch late,” she informs.

Talking about the nutrients that dominate Ramsha’s diet, she says that she consumes a high protein and high fibre diet. “At times I just go with whatever I feel like eating. Moreover, for breakfast I have cheese with paratha in the morning, and then I eat whatever is cooked during lunch time, and for dinner I opt for roti with salan or whatever is cooked at home.”

Workout regime

“I work out at least four times a week when I am shooting,” Ramsha tells Instep. “But if I am not working then I exercise seven days a week. As I mentioned earlier, I am currently practising yoga. I do everything on my own; I don’t have any personal trainer.”

Speaking of yoga, the actress reveals that there are various yoga poses that help in relaxing her mind. “Not only that, it is definitely really good for your body, because I firmly believe that if you have a healthy mind then you’ll have a healthy body,” she asserts.

Importance of mental health

“Mental health should be on top of your priority list,” stresses Ramsha. “I feel that when you work out, it relaxes you, makes you happy and keeps your mental health in check as well. And that’s exactly why I have started doing yoga,” she says.

The actress further went on to explain that she had gained weight during lockdown and in order to lose those extra pounds, she tried following those super unhealthy diets and workout routines. “After realising that such crash diets can wreak havoc on my body I started yoga, and it has helped me a lot in so many ways. It has helped me calm down. I can’t work under pressure and usually get very anxious, but I feel a major difference. On top of that it has made my skin better because again a healthy mind gives you a healthy, glowing skin.”
