January 31, 2021

Here are some of the haircuts and styles that will rule 2021.

You might have carried your usual (and borderline boring) hairdo through last year (and we wouldn’t blame you) but 2021 is definitely calling for a mane makeover. While it’ll be a while until life returns to normal, there are some glimmers of hope – one of them being new hair trends to look forward to and there are loads of options to choose from. The sky is the limit when it comes to hair trends, be it a new hair colour, a trendy cut, or a classy hairstyle. One thing for sure is that we all love freshly cut hair. A trip to your hairstylist does not only transform your look but also livens up your mood.

Curious to see which haircuts and styles will be the rage this year? We have you covered…

’90s curly & coily

Effortlessly cool and easy ’90s style has seeped into the fashion industry and it’s taking over the hair trends as well. 2021 is all about the 90s feel with more lived-in looks. For curly and coily hair types, the cuts will be shorter and in boxy shapes so the hair bounces a lot more. Also, these cuts will not only be of one length but will have little bangs in the front and layers to allow for internal movement.

Curtain bangs

Curtain bangs will continue to reign supreme in 2021, just like last year. This look is all about framing your face, thanks to the long sides and wispy ends. They’re super low-maintenance and are super versatile. They’re long enough to grow out or pin back if you want, but they can also be cut into a shorter look. Another reason why curtain bangs are so popular is because they work with all sorts of textures. No matter what your hair type is, the key is getting the shape right and keeping the edges longer than the middle.

Shine on

Glass hair has been popular amongst A-list celebrities for quite some time now and this year is no different. Glossing services are something that salons offer but we rarely go for this treatment. However, hair that is moisturized, glassy, and conditioned as well as shinier is quite in vogue. According to beauty experts, there is a strong focus around health and self-care, and your hair shouldn’t be ignored. It’s important to consistently include treatments, like a gloss over the top of your hair colour, in your hair regimen.

The deep side parting

Fashion has long embraced the middle part, and last year the centre parting was spotted everywhere. If you’re not willing to go for a haircut, but still want to amp up your look, try a deep side parting instead of a middle part. It was all over the international fashion shows. While this style is a bit androgynous and grungy, the great thing about a parting is that it’s versatile. You can wear it one day and not the next, it’s flattering on all face shapes, and it also does a good job of spicing up an up-do. Another option is to slick it back into a lovely bun for an evening out.

Face-framing layers

Are you one of those people who love their length and never, ever want to chop off a few inches? Hair experts suggest that adding face-framing layers will do the trick. It is a great way to spice up your long hair and give it some shape. Face-framing layers flow seamlessly alongside the contour of your face, while bringing out your eyes. How the hair frames and hits your face can completely change your overall face shape. All you have to do is ask your hairstylist for long layers at the back and smooth, graduated layers in the front to frame your face. The best part is that this cut not only lends that vintage vibe, but also adds definition without sacrificing the length.
