Events in Lahore this week

Dr Arfa Sayeda aur Zarminae Ansari ki Himaqatein — Joy of Urdu Weekly Hour, an online event, shall be held on Sunday (today) on ZOOM. Start time: 5pm.

Event participation is open to public.

The event promises a delightful session as Zarminae Ansari “improves her Urdu pronunciation and comprehension through works of Urdu literature, under Dr Arfa’s expert guidance.”

On the eve of noted Urdu writer Muhammad Khalid Akhtar’s birthday, excerpts from his novel, Chakiwara Mein Visaal, shall also be read out. The book is said to have been regarded by Faiz Ahmed Faiz as “the greatest novel in Urdu language.” The book has also been translated into English by Bilal Tanweer (published by Picador India).

Joy of Urdu is a volunteer-run organisation that works for the promotion of Urdu language, creating bilingual content and publications.

Socially distanced art classes continue on Sundays at the House of NANNAs for limited attendance with masks. Timings: 11am to 2pm.

Drawing boards and benches are provided. Bring your own lunch and some soap cakes for the needy.

The classes are held under the tutelage of senior artist and conservationist Dr Ajaz Anwar.
