The Supreme Court grants leave in Meesha Shafi’s appeal

January 17, 2021

This is not only a victory for Meesha Shafi but for women in Pakistan at large

This is not only a victory for Meesha Shafi but for women in Pakistan at large. What the leave means is that the court will consider whether the law on harassment within the workplace should also be extended to self-employed persons.

Furthermore, the Governor of Punjab will be considering whether all women including students are covered under Pakistan’s harassment laws. This verdict is huge for all women in Pakistan and for Meesha Shafi, who didn’t deter from going forward. As they say, time’s up.

Kashmir set to play a live show in Karachi

The emergence of District 19 - a creative hub catering to artists - in Karachi as a venue has been a blessing of sorts for the music ecosystem. While Covid-19 is still very much a reality, small and intimate shows are also becoming a reality as long as SOPs are followed. One upcoming example is Kashmir, the music group that hails from Karachi. The band, itching to play a live show, as confessed by singer-songwriter Bilal Ali to Instep, is all set to play at District 19 on Jan 22. But the event requires registration with entry allowed via guest list. So register now or miss out. For details about the upcoming gig, check out the band’s social media accounts and while at it, give ‘Hamesha Dair Kar Deta Hoon Main’ a listen. It really is one of the most underrated releases of 2020.
