Like the rest of the world, Pakistan is also suffering from the infectious virus known as COVID-19 (coronavirus). With the number of
confirmed corona cases rapidly rising in Pakistan, the government recently announced that the country-wide lockdown would be extended
till April 14, 2020. This decision has been taken in order to avoid coronavirus from spreading any further.

With the emergence of this global disease, many celebrities in Pakistan are playing their part by creating awareness about corona through their social media handles, including videos where some are washing their hands in the manner advised by the World Health Organisation (W.H.O.). Others have advised fans to stay home and practice social distancing.

Various celebrities are also putting efforts in providing help for those suffering the most, particularly daily wage workers who are unable

Ali Zafar donates Rs 2 million

Singer, songwriter, actor and producer, Ali Zafar has donated Rs. 2 million to help the daily wagers; he also shared that ration has been delivered to 50 families, so far. The singer also urged his fans and followers to give generous donations to Ali Zafar Foundation to ensure that nobody is left hungry during this time.

Designer Asim Jofa creates protective gears

This past week designer Asim Jofa also lent his services to fight the pandemic by creating protective gears for doctors, nurses and paramedics in the country. The designer announced that he, along with his team, was producing self-protection suits and masks, made according to the guidelines provided by medical experts, and they would be distributed free of cost.

Ration drive ‘Hope Not Out’ by Shahid Afridi

In order to help lower income group families who are struggling desperately because of coronavirus, cricketer Shahid Afridi has also spoken up. Afridi, who plays for Pakistan Super League team, Multan Sultans and global Twenty20 tournaments after retiring from the national team, has requested fans (and there are many) to contribute to The Shahid Afridi Foundation and take part in ‘Hope Not Out’ ration drive. Afridi took to social media to share that the ration drive is being carried out across the country - from Karachi to Kohat - without any discrimination of race, religion or ethnicity.

Wasim Akram and Imad Wasim donate to PM’s Relief Fund

Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan - who announced the Prime Minister Relief Fund for COVID-19 – has also appealed for funds. During a telethon to collect donations for PM’s relief fund, former Pakistan cricketer, Wasim Akram, who still enjoys enormous popularity as well as Pakistan cricket team all-rounder Imad Wasim announced that they too will be donating one million rupees each to the fund to help those in need during the crisis that could go on for weeks.
