Hollywood’s A-listers wore head-turning looks as they stepped onto the red carpet.

The Academy Awards are known for bringing out some of the best, most elegant looks in Hollywood and the Oscars 2020 were no exception. While the main focus of the awards was to celebrate the greatest talents in the world of cinema, the red carpet also provided celebrities the opportunity to showcase their sartorial prowess. A-list stars were spotted donning designs by some of the most sought-after designers in the fashion industry. In fact, the decade’s first Oscar ceremony delivered a celebration of Hollywood glamour in all its forms.

From gorgeous gowns to flawless makeup, here are a few celebrities who caught our fancy.

Natalie Portman

The actress made an elegant yet bold statement on the red carpet. Natalie Portman looked stunning in a black gown with sheer gold overlay and gilded rope belt. The Black Swan actress paired her outfit with a Dior Haute Couture cape embroidered with the names of the female directors who weren’t nominated for an Oscar this year. While Portman opted for a classic face with nude lips and black winged eyeliner, her choppy, laid-back bob looked effortless yet chic.

Renee Zellweger

Renee Zellweger, who won the Best Actress award for Judy, was the image of classic Hollywood glamour. The 50-year-old actress wore a white glittering custom Armani Prive one-shoulder gown. Her outfit choice for the night of nights was simply stunning; simple, sleek yet glamorous. As for Zellweger’s hair, celebrity stylist, Richard Marin created a romantic circular chignon at the nape of her neck, while makeup artist Dana Michelle added a few false lashes for that extra bit of glam.

Scarlett Johansson

The Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit star dazzled on the red carpet in a champagne silk Oscar de la Renta number. Makeup artist Frankie Boyd kept Johansson’s makeup natural and glowy by adding a glittery gold eye shadow as well as a highlighter to the inner corners for the eyes to make them pop. An extra touch of bling came courtesy of hairstylist Cho, who weaved silver into the actress’s up do.

Regina King

Looking regal as ever, Regina King was spotted in an asymmetrical icy pink Versace ensemble on the red carpet. Her makeup was just as perfect with matching pink lipstick and dramatic, sultry lashes. According to King’s makeup artist Latrice Johnson, for Regina’s red carpet makeup, she was inspired by her beautiful pink custom Versace dress and wanted to give her a soft glam to complement the look. Accessorizing her beautiful gown with Harry Winston diamonds, this was definitely one of our favourite looks of the night.

Janelle Monae

Never one to shy from a dramatic look, for the awards night the singer, rapper and actor chose a custom Ralph Lauren gown with a statement hood. The fully hand-embroidered crystal-laquered silk lame tulle mesh dress was covered in more than 168,000 Swarovski crystals. Though her dress was one of the brightest on the carpet, her hair and makeup shined as well – courtesy of makeup artist Jessica Smalls, who opted for long, voluminous, Lashify lashes and striking red lip. Hairstylist Nikki Nelms chose to complement the hood and diamond choker by giving a subtle, lifted side sweep that framed Monae’s face and peaked through the hood for added glam.

Charlize Theron

The Bombshell actress seldom disappoints on the red carpet and showed how simplest styles can often have the most impact. Charlize Theron opted for a structured black Dior gown and kept her look sleek as ever with minimal makeup and a sparkling Tiffany & Co. diamond pendant necklace. Her go-to stylist, Adir Abergel styled Theron’s hair in its signature side swoop but added a surprise accessory. He said, “We added an incredible detail with two matching extensions on either side, bound with black thread and attached together in the back in a half-moon.”
