February 9, 2020

Some of our favourite hair and makeup looks that night.

The 73rd annual British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards, which is considered to be one of the biggest award nights of the year, was held at the Royal Albert Hall, London this past weekend. While some of the world‘s biggest names in acting came together to celebrate an incredible year of film, this year’s BAFTA Awards were different as guests were requested to ‘make sustainable choices on the red carpet’. The main reason behind it was to work towards a positive impact on the environment. While nothing was mandatory, the glam squads joined forces with celebrities to create some of the most stunning hair and makeup looks.

Here are some of the best beauty looks from the 2020 BAFTAs.

Renee Zellweger

Renee Zellweger, who bagged the Leading Actress award for Judy, wowed in a pink column gown by Prada that featured a Bardot neckline. Renee kept her makeup fresh and opted for a beautiful pink blush and rosy lips that complemented the colour of her pink gown. As for her hair, it was styled into an elegant low chignon with a few strands left loose to gently frame her face. She lightly accessorised her look with bold diamond and gold art-Deco-style bangles and rings.

Charlize Theron

The Bombshell star arrived on the red carpet sporting a strapless purple Dior gown with a plunging neckline and A-line skirt. Her gorgeous gown was highlighted by a slim black waist belt. While she wore her hair in a loose updo, she accessorized the look perfectly with a diamond necklace by Tiffany & Co. As for her makeup, the actress nailed a classic glam look and went with soft pink makeup. With warm pink lipstick and matching eye shadow, Charlize‘s subtle look is the perfect way to add a glow to your complexion.

Saoirse Ronan

One of our favourite beauty looks of the night was from Saoirse Ronan, who looked effortlessly chic in a recycled black satin Gucci gown with thin straps and a floor-length skirt. Celebrity makeup artist Karen Alder added a pop of colour to her all-black ensemble with a bright orangey-red lip hue and kept the rest of her makeup subtle; adding a touch of pink eye shadow and black winged eyeliner. To further jazz up her look, Saoirse accessorized her look with multicoloured drop earrings and a diamond bracelet. According to hair stylist Adir Abergel, he created a 60s rocker look. “I was inspired to create a rockabilly-esque pompadour but wanted to keep it very feminine and soft,” he said.

Margot Robbie

The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actress chose a stunning floor-length black gown from Chanel’s S/S 2020 Couture collection. Featuring a full tiered skirt and dramatic lace capelet sleeves that revealed a gorgeous open back, Margot looked glamorous in kohl rimmed eyes, nude glossy lips and a low-key hairstyle dubbed ‘the sculpted wave’. Hairdresser Bryce Scarlett said that he was inspired by Margot’s classic and statuesque gown. “Wanting to complement it and not compete with it, I felt a simple low knot with a sculpted wave near the face would do just the trick.” To finish off her look, Margot opted for pared back accessories - a black flower ring and a striking pair of diamond earrings.

Kate Middleton

The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton championed sustainable fashion as she arrived at the BAFTAs, along with Prince William, looking as classy as ever. For the awards night, Kate chose a stunning white and gold gown Alexander McQueen gown that she first wore during a 2012 visit to Malaysia. The Duchess added a touch of glamour to the outfit by pairing it with shimmering Jimmy Choo glitter heels and an Anya Hindmarch clutch bag. She sported glamorous makeup with a pink lipstick and brown smokey eyes, and swept her hair into an intricate chignon that involved multiple twists and braids for a voluminous finish.

Zoe Kravitz

What better way to stand out on the red carpet than in a shimmering gold gown? With a high neckline and long sleeves, the Big Little Lies star wore a flattering full-length dress from Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello. While Zoe kept her eye makeup natural and glowy, her perfectly matching earrings, lips, and nails complemented the gold gown impeccably. As for her hair, celebrity hairstylist Nikki Nelms slicked-down Zoe’s short hair, adding finger waves to give a subtle nod to old Hollywood glamour.
