BEAUTY STATION! Beauty looks from the Grammys, 2019

Instep Desk

The international award-show season is now in full swing and while the awards and recognition is of course at the core of these events, we do love to obsess over the variety of looks created on the red carpet. This week we witnessed the 61st annual Grammy Awards come to life and like every year, we saw some interesting trends in hair and makeup. When it comes to fashion and beauty, musicians like to have more fun and are comfortable taking risks. This year too several artists experimented with their looks, from Alicia Keys’ makeup-free statement to Cardi B’s beaded up do and much more.

Since its inception in 1959, the Grammys have emboldened musicians to make statements and every year we see celebrities go for trends that are fun and quirky.

Here’s a lowdown on some hair and makeup moments from music’s biggest night…

Lady Gaga

The singer turned actress, popular for her eccentric looks, got in touch with her rock-star roots in a sparkly silver dress on the red carpet. The A Star is Born actress showed up rocking platinum locks and a sultry smoky eye. Lady Gaga’s makeup artist Sarah Tanno gave her a smudged liner, creating a rock star-inspired eye makeup. Tanno smudged the liner on the outer corner of her eyes, and used black and nude eyeshades to layer the liner and shape the eye; she finished the look with a glistening lip gloss. Lady Gaga’s platinum-blonde hair was styled in easy, barely-there waves.

Cardi B

Styled with pink eye shadow, luxe lashes and a pearl headpiece, Cardi B went all out for the Grammys. She chose a vintage 1995 Mugler gown and complemented her gown with pearls all over. On her lids, her makeup artist created a dramatic magenta smoky eye that was stunning. For her hair, celebrity stylist Tokyo Stylez hooked Cardi B up with a ‘90s-inspired pearl up do.

Dua Lipa

The British singer showed up on the red carpet with the sharpest ’90s-style blunt bob imaginable. Dua Lipa’s super-sleek bob was perfected by celebrity stylist Sami Knight, while the rest of her beauty look was kept minimalist-glam with shimmery but subtle eye makeup, nude lips and dramatic lashes.

Jennifer Lopez

The singer and actress took hats to new heights and ponytails to new lengths on the Grammys red carpet. Jennifer Lopez wore an embellished Ralph & Russo gown along with a matching wide-brimmed encrusted hat and long tousled pony tail styled by Chris Appleton. As for her makeup, she went with a smoky eye, nude lips and her signature bronzy glow.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry is one star who has proven time and time again that the pixie can be a versatile cut. She struck the perfect balance between pretty and punk. Her pink dress was undeniably feminine while her slicked-back hair added just the right amount of edge. Her makeup artist Michael Anthony mirrored the tone of her dress in her makeup with blush tones on her eyes finished with dramatic lashes and a rosy lip.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus kept her makeup delightfully simple and went with a pristine cat eye, flirty lashes and wind-swept waves with a sleek side part for this year’s Grammys. She surely looked stunning and effortless in understated makeup. Miley Cyrus flaunted pale peach lips, fresh, matte skin, and cat eyeliner paired with a classy black suit.
