BEAUTY STATION! DIY: Face masks to try at home

Instep Desk

Radiant, glowing skin is possible with the right skincare routine, but for that, most of us resort to buying extremely expensive face masks available in the market. While it is absolutely alright to invest in quality skincare products every now and then, opting for homemade solutions will rejuvenate your skin (that too without chemicals) and will not put a big dent in your wallet as well.

The best part about a homemade facial mask is you know exactly what is going into it. A good homemade mask will pamper your skin, minimize pores and help get rid of acne and fine lines. But make sure that your skin is thoroughly clean before you apply any mask. Also, do a patch test before applying any new face mask to test for skin allergies or irritation.

Here are some simple homemade face masks that will leave your skin fresh and glowing in no time.

Oily skin no more

Oily skin is one of the most frustrating and problematic skin types. You wash your face in the morning, and after two hours, you look no less than a grease ball. This homemade mask is perfect for people with oily skin. The things you’ll need include 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. Mix baking soda and lemon juice in a bowl. The baking soda will start to bubble up, which is normal. Apply the face pack, avoiding the eye area and rub the mask in slow, circular motions around the oily T-zone. Rinse it with cool water after 15 minutes and apply a light moisturizer.

For glowing skin

If a dull and lackluster complexion is your biggest bugbear, then try this super-easy DIY face mask that will give your skin a healthy and natural-looking glow. All you need is 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder, 1/4 papaya and some Aloe Vera gel. Simply mix together all the three ingredients into a bowl and stir well. Apply this mask on your face - it has the ability to brighten up your complexion and boost blood circulation. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then rinse it off. Pat dry with tissue.

Uneven skin tones

Want to get rid of blemishes? Then this is the mask for you. It is especially great for those who have hyper pigmentation and sun spots. What you need: Take 2 tablespoons of honey and half cup of mashed papaya and blend the two ingredients together. Gently apply the mixture over your face and leave it on for almost 15 to 20 minutes. Wash it off and don’t forget to moisturize.

Minimize those pores

Admit it or not but there’s actually no way to close up your pores. However, there are clever ways to minimize them and for that here’s what you have to do. Beat the white of 1 egg, then mix 1 tablespoon of honey and squeeze half a lemon in the mixture. Apply it generously all over your face and allow the mask to dry completely. Your skin will feel tight as the mask starts to dry up. Rinse the mask using lukewarm (not hot) water. Finish the process by gently rubbing an ice cube over your skin.

Goodbye acne

Acne is one of the most common problems women face. This DIY mask contains turmeric which is known for its strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. To make this mask, combine 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 2 teaspoons of rice flour with 3 tablespoons of plain yoghurt. Mix well to form a smooth paste and apply it on your face, especially on acne-prone areas. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. When dry, dampen your face and gently scrub the mask for a minute or so. Wash it off with cool water and pat dry your face with a soft towel.
