BEAUTY STATION! Grammy Beauty Looks

Instep Desk

It’s award season and the most prestigious award ceremony of them all - the Grammys - just concluded. While white roses and outfits stole the sartorial spotlight at the awards, hair and makeup had its standout moments too. There’s nothing quite like seeing your favourite celebrity rock a new beauty trend and being inspired by it. Here’s our round-up of our favourite beauty looks from the Grammys this year.

Hailee Steinfeld

The Pitch Perfect star knows how to dress red carpet appropriate but still have fun. She brought back the ’90s hair flip for the Grammys red carpet and even modernized the 80’s bright blue eye shadow around her eyes. The heavy dose of blue eye shadow could have read tacky on some but worked with Hailee’s look. It complemented her metallic purple boots and offset the colour well. If you’re brave enough to give it a go, pick a blue shadow with a bit of grey in it and keep the rest of the look simple.

Chrissy Teigen

We can always depend on Chrissy Teigan to keep things exciting whether it means speaking her mind or debuting a brand new look on the red carpet. When she put out BTS videos of herself getting ready we thought it would be a conventional red carpet up do but she turned up at the event with hair six inches shorter than before. Chrissy really sold the brand new lob to us with loose waves adding the perfect easy chic addition to her sparkling dress and her makeup in bronze tones highlighted her gorgeous skin colour.

Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes brought 1920s vibes to the red carpet with her pixie cut styled in finger waves. We liked it because it was experimental and doing so at a grand event like the Grammys means Katie is willing to go the extra mile for her look, which we always appreciate. Her eye makeup has also incorporated a variety of colours like maroon, gold and green. We loved Katie’s look.

Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae debuted an entire hair color makeover with her pixie cut dyed partially platinum. We noticed that a lot of celebrities are now letting their roots peek through and it isn’t a beauty faux pas as big as it was a few years ago. Monae also wore a bejeweled pin at her hair part and added a pop of color with green under-liner which really opened up her eyes.

Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey personifies retro beauty and with yesterday’s look it seems like she’s throwing it back to the 40s. The star hair accessory secured to the crown of her shiny hair was a headpiece that looked like a halo of silver stars, leading many to make the comparison to actress Hedy Lamarr’s similar hair accessory in the 1941 film Ziegfeld Girl. Her mauve-colored lip and simple black eyeliner-traced eyes balanced out the hair accessory’s extravagance.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is another artist that one can expect a standout look from. She wore a sparkly smokey eye with a wing that could inspire major envy. Her hair was just as dramatic, featuring two braids that were linked using black lacing - very Game of Thrones-esque if you ask us.
