BEAUTY STATION! How to get away with colour

Instep Desk

The last time we saw colourful eyelids was when we saw supermodels like Bella Hadid and Joan Smalls strutting down the runway at the New York Fashion Week this year. Designers such as Prabal Gurung introduced futuristic cat eyes with lots of colour while Anna Sui’s models had their eyelids swept with a rich burgundy eye shadow. While that’s all fine, where does that leave those who aren’t fit to be flaunting exaggerated beauty looks off the runway? The colourful-eye trend trickled off the runway, on to the red carpet and celebrities have introduced user-friendly versions which the rest of us mere mortals can try and adopt.

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o loves colour, especially the colour blue and she has proven this time and again when opting for various shades of blue to dress up her face for the red carpet. She’s often seen sporting a rich turquoise eye shadow or an electric blue lip colour. However it’s this indigo eye liner that caught our attention. Matching her eyes to her dress, Nyongo’o got it right with this gorgeous shade of blue on her eyes. Also, Nyongo’o decided to pair her bright eyes with an equally bright cherry lip but the two shades look fabulous together.

Cara Delevingne

Here’s another Hollywood A-lister matching her eye lids to the colour of her dress. Cara Delevingne is known to be very experimental with her looks. She recently chopped off her locks and went for a platinum silver hair colour, which the supermodel has been carrying off well. Much like Nyongo’o, Delevingne also opted for a bright red eye shadow to match her dress while attending the red carpet of a Cinema Con event in Las Vegas earlier this year. The red colour beautifully complemented her green eyes and we’re glad that the model opted for subtle nude lip colour to complete the look.

Rita Ora

Rita Ora was channeling her inner Poison Ivy (from the Batman series) when she decided to pair a two-tone green look with a rich burgundy lip colour at the 2015 Harper’s Bazaar Icons event, but we aren’t complaining. While the combination of these shades of green might not be for everyone, even though Ora looks fabulous, one can try to combine two different shades in a similar manner and pair it with a dark lip colour.

Vanessa Hudgens

Wonder Woman has been all the rage since it became a box office success and it turns out that other celebrities are also taking inspiration from Gal Gadot’s look in the film. Vanessa Hudgens opted for a golden, metallic, armor-inspired eye look for Moschino’s resort show. Her radiant eye shadow looked incredible, featuring a gradient of gold and red shadow that ended in a platinum wing. Hudgens made sure to keep all the attention on her eyes by choosing a subtle, matte lip colour and glowing, luminous skin.
