You don’t have to be a fan of Urdu rap or Ali Gul Pir for that matter to enjoy and revel in the magic of his latest creation, ‘Modi Teri’

Hotstepper of the month, Ali Gul Pir

The song, written in the course of 4 to 5 days, and one that marks Pir’s first collaborative effort with the Lahore-based music group, SomeWhatSuper, is outrageous and funny as hell. But most of all it’s a daring move from an artist who has made social issues an important fabric of his satirical musical repertoire.

‘Modi Teri’ epitomizes all the things one wants to convey to the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. While SomeWhatSuper of ‘Bandook’ fame lend the song their booming, desi sound, its Pir’s verses that will make you chuckle.

Addressing every outrageous move made by one Indian PM since his ascent to power, ‘Modi Teri’ takes on the issue of water, crisis in Kashmir, the spy pigeon intercepted by India, Fawad Khan, Adnan Sami and knocks quite a punch.

At a time when the artist community in Pakistan is showcasing enormous restrain or making somber statements mostly barring names like Shaan Shahid, Pir’s tune is a reminder that sometimes it’s okay to be outrageous and laugh. The song is not meant as an insult to the Indian people though revealed Pir in a conversation with Instep. It is meant to convey views that remain unsaid. After all, how else can one react to the story of the spy pigeon intercepted by India?

Since making its debut last week, the song has picked up more than 100,000 hits and is gaining momentum very quickly. With a music video of the song in the pipeline that should make its way to us by the last week of October, rest assured the laughter will keep on coming.
