In the fashion industry, where men have fewer success stories compared to the ladies, model Jahan e Khalid has quickly shot to fame, becoming one of the most sought-after faces in the industry. In his modeling career that spans over three years, he has represented Pakistan’s top fashion labels including Republic by Omar Farooq, HSY and Deepak Perwani, among others, and is one to always catch our attention on the fashion runway.

Being top model isn’t as easy as it looks and Jahan e Khalid emphasizes that as a model, it is important to stay and look fit in order to remain at the top of the game. According to Khalid, a healthy lifestyle is one of the prerequisites of his job. "I believe it’s everything!" Khalid asserts in a conversation with Instep. "As a model I need to be super fit and healthy all the time. I can’t be a model if I don’t have the right physique, face and attitude for it and that comes as a result of a balanced lifestyle, both physical and mental fitness."

Though Khalid doesn’t call himself a health freak, he makes sure his choices are healthy. "I believe my daily routine indicates such a lifestyle, from sleeping early to waking up early in the morning to eating healthy, working out and staying in a positive frame of mind," he informs.

Having good health is Khalid’s top most priority and this is what motivates him to stay fit apart from his profession that requires him to be on his toes all the time. Here’s how the model manages to achieve and maintain the kind of lifestyle his work demands…

Fitness goals

"My fitness goals include a proportionate/symmetrical physique, a healthy digestive system and a strong mind. Achieving these goals means taking out time from my busy schedule. I make sure I get ample sleep (at least 7-8 hours a day) so that I wake up feeling fresh and active. Besides, I always try my best to eat smaller portions throughout the day as it keeps me active both physically and mentally."

Eating routine

"I take four to five meals daily but in smaller portions. Proteins dominate my diet more than carbohydrates or fats. A bowl of raw vegetables and fruits with chick peas, detox water (it helps reduce weight and achieve healthy skin), egg whites and a glass of milk, and food that is less spicy are a regular part of my diet. I avoid excessive intake of sugar, carbonated drinks, fast food and baked items. However I have my cheat days, but not more than once or twice a week."

Workout regime

"My workout regime includes both cardio and weight training that helps me strengthen my muscles, maintain my body shape and build strong stamina. I work out at least five days a week. I have had a personal trainer for the last eight years who has helped me achieve my fitness goals. I also do brisk walking, running, swimming and weight training at the gym."

Mental health

"Mental health is essential for me as a healthy mind keeps one positive, more patient and focused on aims and goals. I indulge in leisure activities a few hours every week to relax myself a bit. These activities include watching movies, listening to my favorite musical numbers especially Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s soulful kalams, discussing my issues with my close friends whom I trust and reciting darood shareef before starting any task. All these things help me manage stress."

Personal advice…

"Balance is very important for everyone. The right combination of proper diet, ample sleep and effective exercise helps one attain a balanced life. I always say ‘Perseverance Commands Success’ and ‘Health is Wealth’, so I would advise readers to take their health seriously, work hard and remain consistent when it comes to eating habits and sleep routine."
