Who missed the red carpet brief?

Flash Your Style

The LSAs gave us some spectacular style moments. But where there’s good there will always be the not so great to put things in perspective. You could tell most celebrities gave their outfit and look more than a cursory thought but there were a few who either missed the memo or tossed it out the window. We understand and support individual dressing styles but you have to factor in the occasion and magnitude of the event. After a certain point it ceases to be a fashion statement and starts resembling a faux pas. Here’s who didn’t quite make the red carpet cut for us this year. In no particular order then:

Ali Xeeshan

We’ve often counted Xeeshan’s irreverence as one of his qualities because he bends style rules in his favour but sometimes he tends to leave the boundaries so far behind that it’s hard to follow his chain of thought. Arguably Xeeshan has always liked to make statements on the red carpet but this is our perpetual bone of contention with the fearless designer. The conical Vietnamese rice farmer hat left us befuddled and then the belted smoking robe added to the bewilderment. Try as hard as we want, and we’ve tried several ways of spinning it, there’s no redeeming that hat even if you might be able to make a case for the robe.

Ali Noor

Believe us when we say we’ve adored Ali Noor since we first heard ‘Manwa Re’. His rich baritone floors us every time and it was thrilling to see him win but his utter disinterest in the franchise was evident in his nonchalant way of dressing. You want to dress comfortably? By all means, go for it! You want to remain true to your style? Got it! But you have to have regard for the occasion and even if you want to wear a t-shirt with jeans atleast throw a sports blazer on top and groom your beard please. It’s not asking for too much.

Aisha Khan

Here’s another case of a gorgeous girl playing it safe. Khan has classic features that few will hesitate to call beautiful; large, almond shaped eyes, sharp nose and luscious lips but the star opted for a look that was disappointingly predictable. Dressed in a pale blue Fahad Hussayn gown (which would be lovely at a valima), Khan evoked a vision of Elsa, the Frozen princess but not in a good way. Anyone who wants to be taken as a serious adult shouldn’t be inspired by Disney characters for a red carpet event.

Ushna Shah

We can only assume that Shah’s dog ate the memo and she thought the LSAs were wedding themed this year. Shah is a good actress and seems to have a cool onscreen persona where she isn’t afraid to embody strong, independent women. That’s what makes her choice even more baffling to us. Why would she choose an embellished crop (from designer Rana Noman) that screamed mehndi night with a silken skirt that gave her whole outfit a Jasmine taken out of Aladdin feel?
