Singer-turned-actor Junaid Khan, who made his acting debut with drama serial Kabhi Na Kabhi in 2010, has since then appeared in a number of popular TV plays including Yahan Pyar Nahi Hai, Madiha Maliha and Kadoorat. Currently the actor is playing the male lead in ongoing drama serial Dil-e-Beqarar alongside Hareem Farooq. Khan, who is also the lead vocalist of popular band Call, is all set to take out his solo album very soon.

However, it’s not just music and acting that define Khan; he also invests a lot of time and energy in staying fit. Instep caught up with the actor to find out about his workout routine and the secret behind his fitness.

Khan is not a health freak and believes in keeping a balance when it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. "I work hard but I also prefer to relax my body from time to time," he shared. Khan’s motivation to maintain such a healthy lifestyle comes from the results he sees that keep him going.

Fitness Goals

Having tried out all sorts of workout routines and multiple diet plans, Khan has come to the conclusion that "a well balanced diet, followed by workout is the best route to healthy living". Talking about his fitness goals, he shares, "Body Goal is lean muscular. I make sure I don’t miss my workout and eat the amount that I can burn easily. I do indulge at times but I don’t go crazy on one specific day."

Eating Routine

Preferring a balanced diet above anything else, Khan makes sure he consumes all the essential nutrients in the right amounts. "I consume a good mix of protein, carbs and fats since I believe these three nutrients are highly important, especially for people who work out," he maintained.

As for the number of meals he consumes each day, he said that he takes at least three meals during the day alongside mid meals, at times, that mainly comprise seasonal fruits. "If you eat the right amount of calories and the correct proportions of carbs, protein and fat, you’ll not only be healthy, but will also curb cravings, feel less hungry and lose excess weight quickly," he noted. "My daily meal has 40% protein, 30% carbs and remaining are fats and vitamins."

Workout Regimen

Apart from keeping a balance in his diet, Khan makes sure he never misses his exercise even with busy schedules.

"I work out five days a week; one day is for weight training, followed by cardio and the next day I work on strengthening the core and then I repeat," he observed.

Elaborating on what form of workout he prefers, he said, "The trick to getting a good physique is keeping your body confused and not following the same routine every time. I prefer less machines and more free weights." Khan doesn’t have a personal trainer since he believes one can monitor themselves on their own once they hit pro level.

Mental Balance

The key is in finding a balance between physical and mental health. "Mental health is very important. Just like you need a healthy mind to do anything, exercise too requires focus," he asserted. "Workout itself relaxes the mind. It’s said that it releases certain enzymes, which have a soothing effect on oneself."

In order to stay sound, the singer-turned-actor prefers at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep. "Our body needs rest and I can’t function even after one night of disturbed sleep," he added.

Piece of Advice

According to Khan, everything begins from one’s own satisfaction. "You come first before anything else," he observed. "If you want others around you to be happy, you need to keep yourself happy and that comes from peace of mind and body.

"There is no one formula that works for everybody. What I’ve mentioned here works for me but might not work the best for you so keep experimenting and try to find the right amount of everything that works for you," he concluded.
