BEAUTY STATION! Hair care 101

With summer in full swing, split, frazzled ends and brittle hair are a daily encounter. And while the list of home remedies is endless, our busy lives rarely spare us enough time to prepare, and invest in them. However, that’s no excuse to neglect your hair because hair care is as important a beauty aspect as any other. Instep spoke to four of Karachi’s leading salons to get a lowdown on hair treatments that can help put life back into your limp/damaged hair without putting a huge dent in your pocket. Here are four treatments that offer a reason to hit the salon in between trims and get rid of all such hair woes

Organic Hair Mayo

Spearheaded by hair expert Mubashir Khan, the Mubashir Khan Salon offers a unique, homegrown treatment to boost hair growth and restore shine called, Organic Hair Mayo Therapy. The best part about the treatment is that it does not rely on any chemicals and offers healthy nourishment without getting one’s hands dirty in the kitchen. "Women who desire long, beautiful hair have gone through endless efforts, no matter what it took but thanks to our secret recipe, the Organic Hair Mayo, it’s no more a dream," in-house hairstylist Zainab Bilal assured Instep.

"The OHM is rich in protein and is purely an organic formula that helps your hair grow faster and at the same time takes care of hair fall. It does not only make your hair feel, but also look, beautiful, leaving it with a glass-like shine. The results are so stunning; one can see the difference in only a couple of sittings," she maintained. The treatment costs about PKR 2200 per sitting and takes about one hour from your day.

Hair Oxygenating Treatment

Beauty-1
The Peng’s Hair and Beauty Clinic offers Hair Oxygenating Treatment for dry and damaged hair. Located on the busy E-Street in Clifton, Karachi, the salon specializes in providing hair care treatments and is known for its hair solutions. "The best hair treatment that we offer at our salon is the Hair Oxygenating Treatment which is an age-defying treatment for dry and damaged hair," Rehana Panjwani of Peng’s told Instep.

She informed that it is an intensive treatment for hair fall and itchy scalp. It’s a three-tier process that involves shampooing the hair, applying a hair cream and mask, using an oxygen machine to boost and increase supply to the roots on dry patches of the scalp. This subsequently repairs damaged hair and improves overall hair growth. Generally, the treatment costs PKR 3500 but right now, the salon is offering it at a discounted price of PKR 2500.

"This is suitable for all hair types and age groups after 15. However, it is important to take care of the hair and use the prescribed shampoo and cream in order to achieve long-term effects," Panjwani added.

Kerastase Treatment

Burgeoning under the umbrella of Pakistan’s leading style guru, Nabila offers The Kerastase Treatment as the ultimate solution to all your hair-related problems. "We offer Kerastase Treatment for hair which offers a solution to a diverse set of issues," Saraphine, the salon’s Manager informed.

Elaborating on how the process works, she said, "Your Kérastase hair consultant will first conduct a diagnosis to create a customized prescription of the products to be used. Trained in specific, effective techniques, they will then offer you a deep hair transformation within a wellness-promoting environment, characterized by the awakening of the senses and deep yet gentle massage to completely relax both your body and mind," she informed.

The treatment however is slightly on the expensive side and can cost you anything between PKR 3000 to PKR 5000 depending on the length of your hair. The treatment takes 45 minutes to an hour to complete.

Keratin Treatment

Rukaiya’s Salon swears by beauty world’s miracle treatment, The Keratin Treatment, and claims it’s one that their clients keep coming back for. "It’s a herbal treatment and is suitable for all hair types," Faheem Akhtar of Rukaiya’s salon told Instep. "First, we examine the problem area and only then suggest which treatment would suit their hair.

"But for the Keratin treatment, we first apply a purifying shampoo to get rid of all the dirt. This is followed by a mask and then a massage of about 15 to 20 minutes. We avoid blow dry at the end since it’s damaging to hair," he explained. Though it helps the unruliest of hair, Keratin is more a hair-smoothening treatment than one that will boost hair growth. It’s not a one-time treatment and requires at least three sittings over a period of two to four months. Also, it’s steeply priced and costs about PKR 15,000 but despite its high price, it’s known to do wonders for crazy, frizzy hair.
