These innovative products will breathe new life in your boring routine

Breaking the Beauty Rut

It doesn’t matter if you’re not a beauty junky always on the look-out for the next pioneering product, new make-up is fascinating for everyone. Who hasn’t come across a new-fangled product and thought, "Wow, never used lip suede before, got to try that!" While most products turn out to be a simple variation of an original formula (lip suede is a fancy upgrade on liquid lipstick) some products are real game changers. Instep introduces five ground-breaking items that will take the beauty industry by storm this year. Ready to meet your latest obsessions?

John Frieda In-Shower Colour Treatments

Who hasn’t tried a box dye at least once? You’re lucky if you escaped from your at-home colouring escapades with a uniform shade; we’re not even venturing towards the worst. But the head honchos at John Frieda want you to give at home colouring another shot. Created by hair stylist Harry Josh (he’s the man behind Giselle Bundchen’s textured tresses) the In-shower treatment offers three different results. Two formulas lighten your hair by up to one shade (catering to blondes and brunettes) and the third formula darkens your hair by one shade, all in the shower. Sold for $10 (Rs.1000) a pop, these fancy hair lightening treatments promise to not leave unsavoury copper results if used properly, according to the directions given on the box. Touted to be a low peroxide treatment that helps you last a little bit longer between colouring appointments, the product works best when used once a month for 5-10 minutes in the shower. It is accompanied by a range of shampoos and conditioners to supplement post usage care.

Drybar Detox Dry Conditioner

We remember the first time we ever used dry shampoo and realized life would never be the same again. A revolutionary product, it changed how we approached hair care and quickly became the only aide our locks needed. There’s a new contender in town though, driven by the same concept but targeting a different beauty dilemma. The dry conditioner, as the name suggests, is to be used between washes. Say goodbye to brittle strands and dry ends by simply spritzing a little along your lengths between washes/blow-dries to keep your tresses looking tres chic. The big difference? It hydrates instead of absorbing oil and hence isn’t meant for your roots.

Pixi Golden Glaze Brow Brightener

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: 2016 is theyear of metallic. From tin foil pants to sparkly gloss and glitter eyeliner, it is okay to go heavy handed on the shimmer this season. And while your wardrobe and make-up get a scintillating update, why should your eyebrows be left behind? Even if the thought of coating your arches in glitter is freaky (for us too) there’s no need to give up just yet! Beauty brand Pixi introduces their latest brow primer that not only tames your eyebrows but also adds a golden sheen to them. Swipe on for defined brows that gleam magically.

Benefit Eyelash Primer

A decade ago who had even heard of primers in Pakistan? Now we’re in an era where eyelash primers are the next big thing! Benefit’s critically acclaimed ‘They’re Real’ franchise introduces a mink brown eyelash primer that can be worn on its own or under mascara for serious drama. The primer, on its own, adds length and separates the lashes, tinting them with a soft brown shade that can be perfect for a natural day time look. However layer on your favourite mascara formula after letting a coat of the primer dry and be amazed by the results. It’s like your lashes, except on steroids. Don’t be surprised if people ask you if you’re wearing falsies after stepping out with this dynamic duo framing your peepers.

Estee Lauder Power Foil Mask

If you’re an Instagram user you’ve definitely seen your fill of mask selfies. From beauty gurus to celebrities, the latest social media selfie sensation involves snapping yourself with a sheet mask that makes you look vaguely reminiscent of Casper, the friendly ghost. Thanks to Estee Lauder now you can look like Iron Man instead. The brand’s new foil mask brings you an enhanced dose of Estee lauder’s acclaimed Advanced Night Repair Serum, which locks in the formulation and yields instant results. Inspired by the Korean beauty experts’ predilection for masks of all kind for smoother looking skin, the brand decided to test its metallic sheets in a market that knows masks best: South Korea. And our Oriental counterparts give this selfie-worthy mask full marks! Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery Power Foil Mask launches worldwide in February.
