The runway guide to making-up

Fashion weeks are typical of larger than life beauty statements - we’ve seen drama unfold on the runway through pristine white mascara, blood red vampire lips and even futuristic violet eyelids. Not everyone is comfortable with drama but fortunately there are experts to translate the trends from runway to the comfort of reality. The recently held PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week gave us some eye catching beauty looks, from a natural flush adding freshness to the tired fashion week complexion to a wave of bold, grunge eye make-up that caught everyone’s eye. We spotted an array of gorgeous beauty trends that are bound to be big news this summer and asked Nabila’s Senior Make-up artist and backstage beauty-pro Sara Shahzad to walk us through our favourite beauty moments with a guide on getting the look at home!

Behold the ‘eye’

Designer duo Saira and Shakira upped their eyeliner game as we saw a group of runway beauties walk down in a flurry of dramatic, winged eyes with nude lips and a face that looked subtle but youthful. As a rule, we are always advised to keep either the eyes or the lips strong unless you can pull off a ruby pout.

"The statement winged liner is a classic. It’s a little tricky to do but will instantly give you extra oomph," Sara suggests. "Choose a liner that is easy to control, like the They’re Real Push-up Liner by Benefit. Keep the rest of the face fresh and subtle so the eyes can do all the talking."

Blue crush

Those craving for some glimmer can take a cue from models for the HSY Ink showcase; that dazzling pop of blue just above the crease was spectacular. A shimmering blue eye shadow is like your ‘glamglow’ kit for this season, giving you camera-ready eyes instantly and Sara has it all sorted out for us.

"Coloured eye shadows are really making a comeback and are more futuristic versus the ’80s matte look. My hot favorite is a creamy metallic Lapis blue, which comes in Aqua creme by Makeup Forever. Apply one coat of mascara and some sheer lip gloss with it and you are good to go."

Go nude

Muted lips are a far cry from dull and boring; they are the statement of this season, as seen at the Shubinak show. Sarah gives us a much-needed tip on how to pull off this classic trend without looking like a zombie from The Walking Dead.

"Every girl needs that perfect nude lip colour that’s made for her. One might use it for a polished day look with mascara and rosy cheeks or go for a bold and glamorous look with dark smokey eyes for the evening.  Finding one is not as simple.  Too pale and it can look like one is wearing concealer on their lips. The idea is to look natural and effortless so a slightly creamy textured lip stick with a warm undertone closest to ones complexion should do the trick. Your best bet: the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Sensual Silk & Nude Biege."

Orange is the new black

Coral/orange is the new shade to sport this spring and trends at Muse showed  how not be afraid of colour and go over-the-top with signature Twiggy lashes.

"For a fun, easy summer look, nothing works like coral lips and heavy mascara. It looks great on all skin tones and can be worn during the day and can work through the night. Don’t outline the lips and skip the eyeliner, keeping the skin sheer for the sexy, girly look. Must-haves include M.A.C lipstick in Ravishing and L’oreal’s Lash Architect," recommends Sara.
