A-game! Take inspiration from Hollywood’s biggest night and up your style quotient with the trends that emerged from it.
Statement necklaces: still a thing
Eye-catching gems gave tough competition to the dresses they were supposed to complement. The biggest jewellery trend to emerge on the red carpet last Sunday was that statement necklaces were still going strong. While Scarlett Johansson’s emerald-ful foliage may be considered a dubious choice, Cate Blanchett’s contrasting turquoise confection from Tiffany’s and Margot Robbie’s vintage Van Cleef & Arpels caught the eye and held the stare.
Monochrome minimalism
Meryl Streep proved that sharp dressing isn’t just for the men as she looked like her usual elegant self even in a Lanvin tuxedo-skirt and the Oscar-winning Patricia Acquette’s sweeping cape (we’re sure you saw it when she gave that widely popular acceptance speech) needed nothing more to stand out. If sparkle isn’t your thing, the simplest colours may be all you need.
Don’t be afraid to shine
Stars went all out with the glitz and glamour. Whether it was the 6,000 pearl-encrusted Lupita N’yong ivory gown or Emma Stone in a glittering fluorescent green Elie Saab or Nicole Kidman in a red-belted fully sequinned LV gown, the ladies made a statement in the favour of sparkle.
The quiff
Quiffed hairdos were a surprise trend on the red carpet this season. Scarlett Johansson and Rita Ora both whipped out the hair gel for an edgy Oscars look.
