She’s been making a slow and steady mark on the fashion scene over the past few years but 2015 is the year that Zara Shahjahan is charging ahead, all guns blazing.

Last year Zara was one of the four designers who debuted at Lakme Fashion Week to much acclaim and she followed her Indian sojourn with a stunning collection at the PFDC L’Oreal Bridal Couture Week. Taking off from where she left off, this year Zara has big plans for the label, which kick-started with her foray into the Karachi retail market through her first stand-alone store in the city. Offering all the brand’s product lines under one roof - the high street label Coco as well as the luxury pret and couture lines - the store is a fashionable space that straddles the balance between quirky and conventional to perfection.

With plans to launch three Coco outlets by the end of the year in Lahore and make her presence felt on runways in Pakistan and abroad, the young designer is on a roll. She’s the only Pakistani designer who has been selected to showcase at the Lakme Fashion Week taking place at the end of March and this will also be the first year that she shows at Fashion Pakistan Week in Karachi in an effort to consolidate her presence in the coastal city.

There’s also the upcoming lawn collection, for which the designer had chosen to go independent rather than collaborate with a textile mill.

We love a designer who’s smart, ambitious and knows how to balance commercial viability with sound aesthetic and Zara Shahjahan fits the bill perfectly.
