The kind of fanfare that stalks Fawad Khan was palpable at the Filmfares, where women of all shapes, sizes and ages gushed over the rock star Romeo for a selfie, the best way to get close to a star, we say! To be nominated was good enough but to actually pick up the glamorous Black Lady for Best Debut Actor (2014) was "amazing," in his own words. Khan’s film, Khoobsurat, may not have done exceedingly well at the Box Office but it did launch him with all the pomp and ceremony required, something he credits to AKFC (Anil Kapoor Film Company), especially his co-star Sonam and producer Rhea Kapoor. The timing was perfect as India was already in love with Asher Hussain and Zaroon Junaid from hit TV serials Humsafar and Zindagi Gulzar Hai, the latter of which was airing on Zee Zindagi channel around the same time as the film. Needless to say, his fans in Pakistan had fallen head over heels several years ago when Khuda Kay Liye released with an enigmatic character called Sarmad. How can we forget his rock star days, which began with Entity Paradigm and the last of what we saw when FK covered Sajjad Ali’s ‘Bolo Bolo’ for Coke Studio? Fawad Khan is the new Khan in Bollywood and undoubtedly Pakistan’s biggest star today and therefore we recognize him as Hotstepper of the Year!

What now? What is in the pipeline for Fawad Khan? Will he be singing in the rain and since we’ve never seen Fawad Khan dance or a successful Bollywood hero who can’t dance, will he be prancing around the Ushu Forest trees in his next movie? Did he actually kiss Sonam Kapoor and will he bend the rules now that he’s made it big in India?
