Four lawn collections to watch out for

As the winter season comes to a close, we look at some of the key designers from the world of fashion who will be delving into the lucrative and rather maddening lawn business this year. The spring/summer season in Pakistan is all about letting your inner fashionista lose and go wild, quite literally, over the fabric of the moment - lawn. Hence, in order to prepare well in advance so that you don’t waste your precious time on mindless exhibitions, and also for those of you lucky few who get a chance to pre-order, it becomes all the more important to keep tabs on the best of the best for the summer. Here are our top four picks that we think will be among the must-haves for the season!

Elan

Last year’s crazy exhibition in Lahore, captured on camera, and the out-of-stock prints across Karachi’s wholesale retailers were enough to prove the demand for Elan’s luxe lawn collection. We are expecting this year to be no different. From who will be modeling for Elan’s catalogue to the design itself, everything about the label’s collection tends to generate curiosity and excitement. For this season, Khadija Shah promises to have pushed the boundaries in terms of designs. "Our patrons will be pleasantly surprised to see designs that have extensive detail unlike seen in conventional lawn prints. Broadly, the collection seeks inspiration from across continents; from varied cultural traditions and pattern development through the ages. We’ve added a Sicilian design this year to our usual line-up of Moroccan, Oriental and Ottoman inspired patterns," she revealed. Be sure to check it out in March!

Sania-Maskatiya
Sania Maskatiya

After a year’s hiatus, award-winning designer Sania Maskatiya is set to return to her textile roots in collaboration with Al-Karam Textiles. If we remember correctly, her debut back in 2013 was quite smashing for its innovativeness and distinctive appeal. Who can forget the ever-so-popular Mohenjodaro print that had fashion-lovers going beserk at the exhibition hall. This year Sania promises a range of the label’s signature prints, from florals to figurines, on solid colours as well as jacquard with hints of embroidery. The line is expected to hit the market in March so be sure to save some money and not run out on budget by February.

Zara-Shahjahan

The designer has been making waves with her incredible back-to-back collections at fashion weeks every season and though she has been in the lawn circuit for quite some time now, she is planning to go independent this season. Expect great attention to detail and premium quality under her ownership that can be already seen in her prêt brand Coco. The prints will vary from Bohemian chic to pretty florals and the variety will also include limited edition stitched versions. We personally hope to see a bug-printed outfit as well, inspired from her Love Bug luxury prêt collection.

Khaadi

The high street king is always among the early birds of the season, coming out with their lawn collection some time in February and tapping into their massive market’s interest for light clothing in early spring. There is always something to suit every palate - from ikat prints to tiny floral motifs to heavily embroidered fronts - and perhaps that is why the stores are always jam-packed on Day 1. For its sheer mass appeal and easy accessibility, Khaadi remains one of the most anticipated lawns year after year.
